I’ m artist Florentyna Theodora Ackah: origins Polish, Ghanaian.
From my paintings, you will discover I do not like to paint within one medium as I love experimenting with different textures such as sand, gloss and acrylic paint. I come from a multicultural background, born and raised in London town which has a massive influence on the vibrant works I create.
I like to base my work on the ethical issues that black women still face today, exploring the irony of how they are perceived in the media, in a world increasingly obsessed with fetishizing them but not willing to give them the appropriate value. Through painting pixeled portraits of WOC I want to celebrate the beauty and strength of these women which the world is blind to.

COCO & GOLD
2021
‘I was inspired to ironically paint and expose one of the racially insensitive ‘African Queen ’ editorials by Numero magazine. The pixilated model was sixteen year old Ondria Hardin. Typical blonde haired and blue-eyed posed with darkened skin, which obviously was an insensitive mistake but it raised the issue we do face on a magazine basis in the western world. Darker models are lightened, larger ones made thin; I like to highlight the traditional weaknesses in our western society.’

“Halloween falls in my favourite season, Autumn, and we all know autumn for it ’ s festive pumpkins, oranges and golden yellows. I also got nostalgic feelings as my seasonal depression grew and I began to miss my old style of brick wall paintings. So i decided to combine my old artistic touch into the new. And there ’ s the gown lowkey looking like an autumn pumpkin”
